If you’re a die-hard Walmart shopper looking to earn rewards on your purchases, the Walmart Rewards Mastercard is a great option. Those who shop at Walmart know it’s a one-stop shop for all your basic needs, from groceries to electronics, to home decor.

The Walmart Rewards Mastercard offers rewards on every purchase and even more for Walmart purchases, with no annual or monthly fees. Read further for a complete review of the Walmart Rewards Mastercard features, fees, pros and cons, and more.

Features of the Walmart Rewards Mastercard

The Walmart Rewards Mastercard offers considerable benefits for Walmart shoppers. Cardholders earn Walmart rewards on every purchase they make, which can be redeemed both in-store and online at Walmart. Cardholders can also enjoy additional benefits, such as extended warranty protection, zero liability for fraudulent purchases, and more.

The highest earnings are made from purchases made at Walmart (in-store or online), so if you don’t shop there regularly, you might find another cash back or rewards credit card is better suited for you. We recommend this card to someone who makes frequent purchases at Walmart, such as groceries, electronics, or home essentials.

  • 1.25% cash back on purchases online and in-store at Walmart
  • 1% cash back on everything else

These are pretty competitive rates for a no-annual-fee rewards credit card. At this rate, $100 spent at Walmart can earn you 1.25 Walmart Dollars, and $100 spent anywhere else can earn you 1 Walmart Dollar.

Those who have a Walmart Rewards Mastercard and spend more than $15,000 in a year on their card become eligible for the Walmart Rewards World Mastercard. This is another reason the card is best suited for frequent Walmart customers. Cardholders become eligible for more rewards at no additional cost when they meet the minimum spend requirement.

Welcome bonus for the Walmart Rewards Mastercard

New Walmart Rewards Mastercard owners can earn a welcome bonus of up to $45. The first $20 is earned if you spend $50 at Walmart on the same day you’re approved for the card. Then, you can earn $15 after your first purchase at a Walmart location, and an additional $10 if you sign up for paperless statements.

How to redeem rewards using the Walmart Rewards Mastercard

Walmart Rewards can be redeemed for pretty much any purchase made at a Walmart store in Canada, online, or through the app. The only products that Walmart Dollars cannot be used for are cash, tobacco, lottery tickets, alcohol, and prescription medication. The website, app, or cashier will simply prompt you to use your rewards once you present your card. When redeeming your rewards, 1 Walmart Reward Dollar can be redeemed for $1 toward your purchase. There are no restrictions on when or how many times you can redeem your Walmart Dollars, but they must be redeemed in $5 increments.

Eligibility for the Walmart Rewards Mastercard

To be eligible for the Walmart Rewards Mastercard, applicants must be residents of Canada, have a good credit history, and meet other basic eligibility requirements. There is no minimum income requirement for the Walmart Rewards Mastercard.

Fees and interest of the Walmart Rewards Mastercard

The Walmart Rewards Mastercard doesn’t have a monthly or annual fee, meaning you can earn rewards for free. Cardholders are subject to an interest rate of 19.89% on purchases and 22.97% on cash advances.

Pros and cons of the Walmart Rewards Mastercard

Pros

  • No annual fee

  • 1.25% cash back on Walmart purchases

  • $45 welcome bonus

Cons

  • High APR

  • Limited redemption options

Final verdict on the Walmart Rewards Mastercard

The Walmart Rewards Mastercard is a good fit for frequent Walmart shoppers, as rewards can only be redeemed for Walmart purchases and earnings are also best made on Walmart purchases. This card is a great stepping stone to earning more rewards with the Walmart Rewards World Mastercard, if you can meet the $15,000 minimum spend. However, the Walmart Rewards Mastercard doesn’t offer much variability in terms of reward redemption. So, if you’re looking for more flexibility in rewards, try other rewards credit cards or cash back credit cards.
